Installation
How to get QCR Scanner: Google Play (coming soon) and closed-test access; required permissions.
QCR Scanner is currently in closed testing (internal testing) and will be published publicly on Google Play very soon. This page explains how to get access to the app, the device requirements, the permissions it asks for, and what to expect the first time you open it. QCR Scanner is a camera scanning app built for Android: it scans text (OCR) and QR codes with your phone’s camera, optionally captures data by voice, and helps you collect the recognized values into lists.
How to Get It
There are currently two ways to reach the app, and the situation will become clearer over the coming weeks.
Google Play (coming soon)
QCR Scanner is being prepared for a public release on Google Play. Once it goes live, you will be able to search for it and install it in a single tap directly from Google Play. For now there is no public general download link; please do not install from unofficial links or sources.
Note: QCR Scanner is a mobile app for Android only. There is no Windows
.exe, no desktop build, and no open-source repository. Third-party sites promising an “instant download” are not official sources for QCR Scanner.
Access via closed-test invitation
If you want to try the app before the public release, you can get access through the closed testing (internal testing) program by invitation. The process generally works like this:
- You receive a closed-test invitation / opt-in link.
- You accept the invitation with the Google account named in it.
- After accepting, the app appears as a test build on Google Play for that account and installs normally.
- Updates arrive automatically through Google Play.
Closed-test slots are limited; to request an invitation, you can contact ReviseTouch.
Device Requirements
The following basics are all you need for QCR Scanner:
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Android (minimum Android API 24, i.e. Android 7.0) |
| Camera | A rear camera is required for text (OCR) and QR scanning |
| Microphone | Only required if you use the voice-input feature |
| Internet | Optional; needed for webhook sync and AI rule generation, not for OCR/QR |
Text and QR recognition run entirely on-device with Google ML Kit. Scanning needs no network connection, so you can scan text and QR codes even in airplane mode. An iOS version is planned but not available yet.
Permissions and Why They Are Requested
QCR Scanner only asks for the permissions it needs, exactly when you first use the related feature:
- Camera (CAMERA): Required for text and QR scanning, live preview, and camera controls (torch, focus, zoom). Without it, scanning is not possible.
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): Used only when you choose to use the voice-input modes (push-to-talk, continuous listening, voice verification). If you do not use voice input, you do not need to grant it.
- Internet (INTERNET): Used for webhook sync, sending the offline queue, and AI rule generation. Scanning and list operations work fully offline.
- Storage: Used when needed during CSV export and file sharing.
Tip: If you decline a permission, the app may ask again or direct you to your device settings the next time you want to use the related feature.
First Launch
The first time you open the app, a short tutorial greets you and walks through the core flow: sizing the central rectangle in the viewfinder onto your target area, running OCR and QR scanning in parallel when you tap, and dropping matching values into your list. A few things to note on first launch:
- Language: The interface is selected automatically based on your device language; you can pick any of 22 languages from the language selector.
- Capture mode: Snap mode is on by default (instant results). Use the lightning (⚡) / HD button on the left rail to switch to Quality mode in a single tap; your preference is stored on the device.
- Permissions: The camera permission is requested on your first scan; features like voice input or sync request their permissions separately as you use them.
When you are ready for your first scan, follow the Quick start page to add your first value to a list in under a minute.
